California Sun

SB-forecast This is the forecast for Santa Barbara for the next few days. I absolutely can't wait to go. I am in need of some sun and nice weather. And of course to get away from work and just be able to relax.

I can't wait to stroll along State Street, looking around in all the stores, walking out to the pier and watching the pelicans, eating at all my favorite restaurants ( *YUMMY* Chicken Strips and Ranch Dressing at State & A) and meeting up with my friends.

I still have to pack tonight after work, one of the few things I always hate about traveling. But then tomorrow I only have a half-day at work which is nice. And soon enough I'll be on a plane to sunny California. :)

Dreary Monday Showers

Another Monday and it's raining. In a way it kind of fits with the whole Monday morning mood. :)
I guess I am going to have a yogurt and wait for the day to develop.
Only two more days until we are leaving for California on Wednesday afternoon. I am so looking forward to a few days without the stress and madness here at work. It will be nice to be near the ocean, sun and palm trees for a few days.

Before Sunset

beforesunset I was just surfing the web after a long day at work and was checking out the Austrian movie magazine site Skip. As I was looking through the upcoming releases for the next few months something caught my eye and made me look again.
I saw a movie called "Before Sunset" starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. For the ones of you who don't know those two were in a movie called "Before Sunrise" (watch the trailer here) in 1995. It was the story of an American college student traveling across Europe on an euro-rail pass meeting a French grad student on a Budapest-Vienna train. He convinces her to get off the train in Vienna with him and they spend the night together before parting ways in the morning. The movie had a lot of great dialogue and always ranked among one of my all-time favorites. Of course I also loved the fact that it was set in Vienna. :)
The sequel "Before Sunset" will be released in July and I can't wait to see it. It's set 9 years after they originally met on the train on their way to Vienna. This time they meet up in Paris.
Call me sad but I am really excited about this. :)

Marcus Dairy Cycle Sunday

cycle-sunday-logo-04.jpg As many of you know I work at a local dairy company called Marcus Dairy. The company has been around for almost a 100 years and is still a family business.
They always have car shows there on Saturdays and the family owned restaurant "The Dairy Bar" is a big gathering place for bikers with their motorcycles, especially on Sundays. And every year they have three big events, one in the spring, summer and fall called "Cycle Sunday".

This year they were forced to cancel the event which has made me feel a bit sad and annoyed at the same time. The event has been a really nice local tradition and the Marcus family has always given a lot of the proceeds of the event to local charities.

Apparently the mall which is across from the dairy complained loudly about the event and the city gave Marcus Dairy requirements they just couldn't meet.

Last Sunday the first event of the season should have taken place and even though the event was canceled they still had a lot of people show up. The city went out of their way to put "No Parking" signs all the way along Sugar Hollow Road (this is a 4 lane road which is only used as a connector road) and a big flashing "No Parking - All violators will be towed" sign. I also heard that there were plenty of police cars parked along the road watching the event. I can't believe that the city would spend tax money on such a stupid thing. There has never been a problem at any of the events in the past and this would have been the 15th year the event was running.

When the press release came out that the event had to be canceled the mayor of the city was on the radio and was claiming that he had nothing to do with shutting down the event and that anybody who wanted to complain should direct their complaints to the mall.
That doesn't even make any sense. The mall cannot hire cops to sit outside the dairy and put up no parking signs.
And to make matters even worse they refused to let any of the bikers shop at the mall. They told them they weren't allowed in the mall parking lot and weren't allowed to shop there unless they came in without their bikes. That is just pure discrimination. They complain that Cycle Sunday affects their sales at the mall but then in the same breath don't let the bikers shop at the mall. It just doesn't make any sense.

This has been bothering me for a few days now so I figured I'd make a post about it and get it out of my system. :)
I hope that Marcus Dairy can bring back Cycle Sunday and have the tradition continue for many more years to come.

Charmed

charmed.jpg Another TV post. :)
Tonight I am in a "Charmed" mood. I am a big fan of this series that airs on the WB every Sunday. I love the story of the three sisters that are witches and have to fight demons and all sorts of other evil every week. I hope the show will run for a really long time.

On a different note everything else is still the same. Work is busy and I don't get much time to do anything non-work related. I did manage to answer some emails today which was good.
I was supposed to be off tomorrow (I am working on Saturday) but have to come into work anyway since we are seriously short-staffed yet again. Oh well. :)

Let's play ball

mets_ball.gif A really nice Sunday spent in the city together with friends.
We went to a baseball game (NY Mets against Pittsburgh Pirates) which is always fun when it's nice out. The Mets lost miserably but it was still a nice afternoon. After the game we went to our favorite pizza place Arturo's in the Village.
I hope the nice weather stays. I am really enjoying the sun and being able to wear spring/summer clothes. :)

One step closer to summer

gbisprcl03_plants_misc12anim.gif I spent the day at work and didn't get out until almost 7 pm or so. But the few minutes I spent outside where just gorgeous. It was a great spring day. We needed some sun after all that rain we've been having. :)

It's supposed to be another gorgeous day tomorrow so I can really enjoy the weather then. We are going to a baseball game in NYC and to our favorite pizza place afterwards. Should be fun. :)

I am doing a past Friday Five since there wasn't a new one today and I didn't know what else to write. :)

4. What four things do you need to do this weekend?
Well I am working tomorrow (Saturday) so I need to go to work. :) Sunday we are going to a baseball game in NYC. I also need to catch up with my letters and answer some emails.

Dr. Quinn

kiss-2.bmp "They said a woman doctor could not survive alone on the new frontier, but I won't give up. And I'm not alone anymore, I've inherited a family and that may be the biggest challenge of all." - Dr. Michaela Quinn

I am in a Dr. Quinn mood tonight. :) I used to be a huge Dr. Quinn Fan when the series was out from 1993 until 1998.
I had all the episodes on tape and am now buying all the seasons on DVD as they are being released. I still love watching the episodes and remembering some of my favorite moments of the show. I love everything that has to do with the Wild Wild West and Dr. Quinn always had a lot of romance, wisdom and wholesomeness about it.
