Summer Living

EisAnd it's already Friday again. Where has this whole week gone? Time just flies by like crazy. Let's see what have I been doing so I can write a proper update. :)

Tuesday was a relaxed do-nothing day at home. The weather was pretty rainy so I didn't miss much. Caught up on some letters and read some. My aunt stopped by at night so we spent some time chatting with her. All in all the day flew by pretty fast even though I didn't really do that much.

Then Wednesday I helped my mom with a little bit of weeding in the vegetable garden before we headed out to lunch. After lunch I sat in the garden for a while enjoying the nice weather before going back inside and helping my mom with making apple strudel. One of our neighbors gave us some apples so my mom decided to make strudel. I was helping her with peeling the apples and getting some of the harder to reach baking and cooking utensils. The strudel turned out yummy. :)

Yesterday, Thursday, my mom & I did some more weeding in the garden before it turned to hot. The original plan after that was for my parents to head into Vienna for a dentist appointment. I was going to go with them to meet up with a couple more friends in Vienna. But my mom ended up taking a bit of a fall, nothing too drastic luckily, but enough to cancel the doctor's appt. So I ended up taking the train into the city instead, met up with my friends and then came back.

Today, Friday, the weather has been pretty nice so far this morning so I am sitting outside with my mom in the garden, enjoying the nice weather. Eventually we are going to have lunch and a tad before 4 I will need to leave to catch the train into St. Poelten to meet up with my friend Anneliese.

Tomorrow I have a follow up hair appointment in the morning and then Mario and his girlfriend and son are coming by. We will go for lunch at a Heurigen to catch up. And Sunday I will already need to pack because it will already be the last day before I leave on Monday. Time definitely flies by like crazy.

Letters went out yesterday to: Katie/Germany and Carmen/Malta. Received a letter/owe a reply to: Kimber/BC.

Salzburg & Vienna Update

IMG_20140721_205547Another quick update from me. It's already Monday night again. As predicted the days are just flying by. Spent Sunday in Salzburg and today in Vienna so it's been a busy few days.

Saturday night I went out with my friend Anneliese. We went for a long walk around three lakes and then had dinner at a really nice restaurant overlooking one of the lakes (here is the link for it if you are interested) If you are friends with me on Facebook I uploaded some pictures on there already. Had a lot of fun hanging out.

The on Sunday I took the train to Salzburg (about 2 hrs from St. Poelten so not so bad) to spend time with two friends there. Hadn't seen both of them in ages so it was a lot of fun to catch up. Salzburg is a gorgeous city so it's always fun to walk around and take in the sights. Even though it was super hot and super humid we still had a good time.

Then today I took the train into Vienna and met up with two friends there as well. Had lunch and drinks in front of City Hall where they have various food stands from different countries all summer. At night they also show movies and operas etc. so it's a very popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

Tomorrow I don't have any major plans yet. My aunt is going to stop by in the evening so I am looking forward to seeing her. Other than that nothing big planned for the day which will be kind of nice for a change. As fun as the past two days have been it will be good to have a low key day for a change.

Received a letter/owe a reply to: Katie/Germany,Kimber/BC and Carmen/Malta.

Hello from Austria

IMG_20140719_123157Here is my first post from Austria. :) Arrived here on Thursday and it's already Saturday again. Time definitely always flies by much faster than when I am at work when I am here. :)

Arrived Thursday morning around 10am via Berlin. All went well with my flights, no issues with the connection so no complaints. :) My dad picked me up from the airport and we drove out to the house and then headed for lunch shortly after. Sat outside in the garden for a bit later before stopping by some relatives.

Friday I had my hairdresser appointment in the morning and then we had lunch at one of the Heurigens. My dad and I tried a bunch of different wines so I could decide which ones to take back to the US. :)

Today we ran some errands, grocery shopping and so on, in the morning. Then we had lunch at home later on. Now sitting under the walnut tree in the garden and making use of the wi-fi. It's been so hot (upper 80ids- close to 90F) but under tree in the shade with a breeze it's not so bad.

Tomorrow I am taking the train to Salzburg to meet up with my cousin and a friend. Haven't seen either of them in ages plus haven't been to Salzburg in forever too so that should be good. It's supposed to be crazy hot tomorrow too but will just deal with it. :)

Received a letter/owe a reply to: Katie/Germany,Kimber/BC and Carmen/Malta.

NYC Anniversary Weekend

NycHere's my NYC recap. :) Had a really nice weekend in the city to celebrate our American wedding anniversary (for those of you who don't know we had two wedding ceremonies, one in Austria and one in the US so we also have two wedding anniversaries *g*)

Drove down Saturday morning, parked in midtown and then took the subway downtown to our hotel. We stayed at the Conrad which was a really great hotel. Our room wasn't ready yet when we got there so we left our bag and then headed to the zoo. Checked out Prospect Park and the zoo there for the first time. Definitely smaller than the Bronx Zoo but still a lot of fun. Got a lot of walking in exploring the park and zoo.

After the zoo we headed to the Brooklyn Bridge and walked across the bridge. Definitely a popular tourist destination on a summer Saturday. But we rewarded ourselves with some ice cream once we made it back into Manhattan. Then walked back to the hotel and checked into our room.

For dinner we walked to the Open Door Gastropub which turned out to be a lot of fun. On our way we also stopped by the 9-11 Memoral. We hadn't been there since they opened it and it was a neat thing to see. They definitely did a good job wih it.  I wasn't really into all the people trying to sell things around there though. I know it's been 13 years but it still feels too soon.

After dinner we decided to stop at a wine bar and headed to the Tribeca location of Terroir. Had some Finger Lakes Riesling and even a glass of Riesling from the Wachau region in Austria. After the wine bar we headed back to the hotel where we had another drink at the roofbar. Neat views of Jersey City and the Statue of Libery.

This morning we slept in and eventually checked out, made our way back to midtown and then drove to Yonkers to have lunch at the YardHouse. Here now so I figured I would take advantage of the free wi-fi and post a quick update.

Next week Wednesday I already leave for Austria. Still need to pack which I will do either later or tomorrow or Tuesday if all else fails. :)

A letter is going out tomorrow to: Jessica/DE. Received a letter/owe a reply to: Katie/Germany,Kimber/BC and Carmen/Malta.

Hudson Walks, 4th of July, Hopkins Inn and more

Collage_20140706151340436Happy 4th of July weekend here in the US to everyone. :) We had a three day weekend for Memorial Day so we ended up having to work on the 4th (Fr) and 5th (Sat) this time around. No big deal as the weather was really pretty awful for the 4th anyway. It cleared out for the weekend which worked out since we had to work on Saturday but had dinner reservations outside on Saturday night.

Had reservations at the Hopkins Inn which is a place we go to about once or twice a year. We usually try to go once during the summer around July 12 (our American wedding anniversary). Had a great time sitting outside (no humidity at all) and enjoyed a lovely dinner on the porch overlooking the lake. I had trout and Mike had filet followed by yummy dessert and a bottle of Gruener Veltliner.

Today, Sunday, we enjoyed some more of the nice weather and went for a hike along the Hudson. Checked out the Olana State Historic Site in Hudson. They have about 5 miles worth of trails that used to be old carriage paths all over the property. Lots of really neat views. Had fun walking the various trails. The weather was warm/hot but not overly humid which was good. Then lunch at the Northampton Brewery in MA afterwards which was yummy.

Tomorrow it's back to work and probably lots of "after the holiday" craziness. Joy. :)

But next weekend we have reservations at a 5 star hotel in lower Manhattan for our wedding anniversary Saturday night. Hope the weather works out so we can do some stuff outdoors and enjoy the rooftop bar at night. :)

A letter went out on Friday to: Charles/TN. Letters are going out tomorrow to: Celia/MA, Nina/WA and Laura/Spain. Received a letter/owe a reply to: Jessica/DE, Katie/Germany,Kimber/BC and Carmen/Malta.
