Moving up

moving-up In today's post I am able to share some exciting news with everybody. :)
Effective Monday I will be the Customer Service Supervisor at my company. That means I will have 7 people under me that I will be responsible for and need to manage. (including the replacement of my old job)
It's a big change and also a bit scary but only in a good kind of way. I am sure I will learn something new every day and come across a lot of new things. It will be an ongoing learning process for me. I definitely look forward to the experience.
Wish me luck on this exciting new adventure. :)

Fairytale Wedding

Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik (R) and his fiancee Mary Donaldson arrive for a Gala performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen May 14, 2004

I just read this article on the Yahoo News about the upcoming wedding of the Danish Crown Prince and his Australian fiancee. I am a sucker for romantic stories like that. :)

Isn't it super romantic to think that an Australian commoner is marrying a Danish prince ?
He met her during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and even though it wasn't love at first sight they fell for each other and overcame any obstacles (distance, heritage, lifestyle, ...) that might have stood between them.
It sure sounds like it's right out of one of those chick flicks I love to watch. :)

Introducing Caitlyn

sim
Maxis finally came out with the Body Shop software to create your own Sims for the upcoming Sims 2 game. It's a stand-alone version that lets you design Sims and also adjust or create any of their clothes, make-up or body/facial features.
I created this Sim and named her Caitlyn. :) I can't wait for the game and finally be able to play and give my Sims character trades and personalities as well.
For now I'll have to be satisfied playing around with the Body Shop software and hopefully being able to create some more cool stuff. :)

Not too much else is really new. Was a very hot and humid day today. I guess summer is closer than we think. :)

I also got an email from the Ragdoll breeder in New Milford, CT who said that we can set up a meeting to see the kittens as soon as they have had their first set of shots when they are 10 weeks old. That will be at the end of June some time. Let's hope we will be able to get one. :)

You never forget your first time

Interesting slogan on the tail end of the plane especially considering it's "Virgin Airlines". (click on the picture to show the full-size photo)
I wonder who was responsible for that slogan. ;)

Oddly enough

ostrich "Police on motorscooters attempt to pull over an ostrich who escaped from a children's petting zoo, Sunday, May 9, 2004, in Taipei, Taiwan. The ostrich eluded capture."

I received this picture via email from Mike and thought it was absolutely hilarious. His equally funny comment was "What were they going to do, give it a ticket??"

Rarely Asked Questions

I stole this questionaire from my friend Sharon's blog over at Life Discovered since I was kind of uninspired today. :)

1. What is the "theme" on your calendar this year?
My Yahoo Calendar has a theme called "Inspirations" which showcasts mostly pretty landscape pictures.

2. Do you read the newspaper every day?
Yes but I've to admit I usually skip to the comics and advice column section.
The real news I usually read online.

3. What kind of shoes are you wearing right now?
None ... just black socks. I am all relaxed at home. :)

4. What magazines do you subscribe to?
Conde Naste Traveler Magazine and Taste of Home's Light and Tasty

5. What is your favorite condiment?
I would have to say ketchup. Does ranch dressing count as condiment ? :)

6. What was the first occupation you remember wanting to have?
I always wanted to be a writer when going to school. I was always writing stories, inventing characters and storylines. Sometimes I wish I still had the time for that.

7. Are you a green thumb?
No, not at all. I do love plants but they are better off outside.

8. Did you have an imaginary friend when you were little?
I don't think so.

9. Do you floss regularly?
I've to admit the answer is no.

10. If you could still hang posters of celebrities on your walls and get away with it like when you were 12, who would be on your walls right now?
I have to agree with my friend Sharon - I would probably pick Matthew Mcconaughey as well. There are plenty of other good-looking celebs out there as well though. :)

11. Do you keep shoe boxes or throw them away?
No I usually throw them away.

12. Would you be embarrassed if someone looked under your bed?
Mmmm .... we do have quite a bit of junk under there. :)

13. If you could be one character in a book, who would you be?
I think I would be Theodosia Browning from the Tea Shop Mysteries series by Laura Childs. Thedosia owns a tea shop in Charleston which sounds just way too cozy and on top of that she gets to solve all sorts of mysteries as well.

14. What do you sleep in?
My favorite Garfield PJ's.

15. What is your favorite word?
"Tea"..... or maybe "Cat"

Remembering Age 13

13 Going on 30 Went to see the movie "13 going on 30" with my friend Sharon last night after work. I really liked the movie and am sure that I will buy it on DVD as soon as it comes out.

It was a true feel-good movie that made you laugh and feel happy. It made me feel sentimental remembering age 13 and trying to remember what dreams I had then and how I thought my life would turn out. I am 11 years older now and my life has taken a very interesting path with getting married and moving across an ocean to live in the States.

It also made me feel good about the choices I have made in life and where I am today. I don't think I would change any of the bigger decisions I have made in life if I had to do it over again.
I love where I am in life right now and there is still so much more to come as time goes on.

The end of an era

friends-lying I can't believe the final episode of Friends is really here now. It will be an 1 hour special about the series and the past 10 years starting at 8 followed by the 1 hour final episode.
Can you believe that it's been 10 years since the show started ? I was only 14 when the show first came on the air. :)

I will actually be going out to dinner and the movies tonight but I will be taping the show and watching it as soon as I get home. I sure wish I had TIVO. :)
I can't wait to see how it all ends, if Ross and Rachel finally get together and if Rachel does go to Paris. But I also already know that I am gonna cry when it's really all over. Am I a sad case ? :)

Sims 2

sims2 Here's another screenshot from the upcoming Maxis game "Sims 2". I absolutely can't wait for the game to come out and always look forward to new screenshots and info about the game.
Right now it's scheduled for release in the later half of 2004. I am guessing it's going to be a release close to Christmas time since that would make the most sense for Maxis.
In the mean time I am waiting patiently and checking the Sims 2 website every day seeing if there are any new details about the game. :)

Nothing much else new really. Work's been busy as usual and we have been working long hours again since we got back. Oh well. :)

PS: Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone ! :)

We're back :)

Hanna at the beach in CA
Here's a picture that was taken at the beach in CA. We took up a ride to the Guadalupe Dunes one day which is a really neat place. It was super hot that day so it was nice to be by the beach and feel the breeze. :)

Here's a little overview of what we did while we were in CA.

Thursday: Spent some time at my old host family's house (from when I used to live in CA in 98-99) and did some shopping in Santa Barbara afterwards. Also had lunch at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants Acapulco's.
In the afternoon we drove down to L.A. to go to a baseball game at Dodgers Stadium. The NY Mets were playing the L.A. Dodgers and the Mets who tend to lose a lot actually won which was cool.

Friday: Had lunch with my two EF teachers Linda and Allie Kay at State & A. It's always fun to see them again and share memories about EF. Had my obligatory Chicken Strips with Ranch Dressing which were absolutely yummy as always (I used to get those all the time while living in Santa Barbara and love the nostalgic value that comes with them now)
After our little visit Mike and I walked along State Street browsing in different shops, looking at books at Borders, walking out to the pier and writing postcards in a cafe.
For dinner we went to my favorite Italian restaurant in SB - Pascucci's.

Saturday: Took a ride to the Santa Ynez Valley and walked around Los Olivos. OMG, it was so hot, it was easily around 90 °F or even hotter. Also decided to check out the location of the Neverland Ranch with all the media circus going on around Michael Jackson. We found it pretty easily and saw a bunch of his fans camped outside the gate. They also had a firetruck parked right there since the ranch is in the middle of a super dry area with a high fire danger and the fans were holding candlelight vigils. It's only a matter of time till somebody lights something on fire. Let me tell you I wouldn't want to have my house there, being rich or not. It's just too desert-y and hot for me. I'd rather have a mansion by the by ocean any day. :)
Afterwards we went on to the Guadalupe Dunes Preserve which was a really nice sight. The town of Guadalupe itself isn't much to write home about but the dunes were really pretty. :)
Had dinner at the Brown Pelican Restaurant which was yummy and romantic as always. Also saw some dolphins while we were eating which was really cool - dolphins are such pretty creatures.

Sunday: Walked around Santa Barbara some more and had lunch at the Santa Barbara Brewing Company. Went to my host family's house in the afternoon for a BBQ. Linda's parents from New Jersey, Gary's parents from Filmore, my host-brothers Eamon and Garett and host-sister Arley were all there. The food was absolutely delicious as always.
After the BBQ we decided to stroll some more around Santa Barbara and then went to dinner at Left at Albuquerque's, another Mexican favorite.

Monday it was time to fly home again which always makes me sad. I love being out in CA and being back with my host family and friends. Some day when we hit the lottery we will move out there. :)

Today it was back to work which of course wasn't nearly as much fun as being on vacation. Oh well. :)
