Relaxing Day Off

gbicupboard I've spent a rather relaxing day at home. It's my day off today and it's been pretty relaxing. I never quite knew how much I appreciated this "alone time" until we changed my schedule at work. I am not complaining by all means. I do enjoy working only every third Saturday which also means only getting a day off during the week every third week. I guess I'll just really treasure those days off from now on.

My day was spent with doing some chores like laundry, cleaning the kitty litter, things like that. But overall I was just lazy, cuddled with my cats, watched some TV, listened to some Sarah McLachlan (one of my favorite relaxing artists next to Norah Jones) and wrote some letters.
A peaceful day.

Mike should be home from work in a little while and we decided to go to dinner at Chili's. I'm starving so I am looking forward to that. :)

Austria in mourning

klestil Austria's President Thomas Klestil died on July 6, 2004 at the age of 71 following heart failure, Austrian state television and the national news agency said. Klestil is seen the imperial Hofburg palace in this April 9 file photo.

My deepest sympathy goes out to my home country Austria and Thomas Klestil's family on this sad evening. Klestil died shortly before midnight Austrian time after being rushed to the hospital on Monday. He had been in critical condition ever since. To read the full news article click here.

I am very sorry for his family and the fact that he never got to enjoy his retirment. He was due to retire after his 2 terms (he has been in office since 1992) and hand over the presidential duties this Thursday. He has been Austria's president pretty much most of the time while I was growing up which makes all this seem very unreal to me. I have never experienced a death of an Austrian political leader in my lifetime so I am kind of shook up about it. Sorry for rambling on.
May he rest in peace.

Fireworks

fireworks

.... And we got to see fireworks after all this 4th of July. Went for dinner at the Hopkins Inn in New Preston near Lake Waramaug last night and were lucky enough to be seated outside. We had a gorgeous view over the lake which reminded me of the Krems region in Austria, especially with looking at all the waitresses dressed in original Austrian Dirndls. :)
To make this wonderful evening even better were we informed that we would see the 4th of July fireworks across the lake later in the evening. They started at 9:30 just in time for some yummy dessert (Toblerone Sundae - absolutely sinful *g*) All the food was very yummy (the Wienerschnitzel was authentic and absolutely delicious), the view was gorgeous and the fireworks really nice.
It was a perfect 4th of July and I couldn't have asked for more. Thanks Mike. :)

Happy 4th of July

So we put half of our new entertainment center together yesterday. :) I figured I'll take a picture of it to show our progress. So far it does look very nice. Of course it took quite a while to put all the pieces together and actually make it look like something recognizable. I always feel like putting together a puzzle when we do these things. :)
If you want take a look here to see what it should look like once we put together the rest. I am sure it will look just fine.
We are still working on rearranging some things and trying to figure out what the best place for some things is. Once the whole entertainment unit is up we will take another close look and make the final decisions.

So I hope everybody is enjoying their 4th of July picnics today. :) Mike actually surprised me with a dinner at the nearby Hopkins Inn in New Preston, CT. It is owned by an Austrian and features such dishes as Wienerschnitzel (breaded veal cutlet) and Backhendel (breaded crispy chicken). They also have some seafood and other yummy things so Mike won't have to go home hungry either. :) We were lucky to get a last minute 7 pm dinner reservation so I am looking forward to that. Yum. :)

Before I sign off for today I am going to post a link to Dave Barry's column for today. It's absolutely hilarious and oh so true so go and read it. :)

It's the weekend :)

I know I haven't been updating my blog as much as I used to lately. I guess my life has just been really busy with work and everything. Customer Service Supervisor sure means a lot of work but it definitely also has its good points.
The picture above is of our cat Dinah. I thought she just looked absolutely adorable so I took a picture of her and decided to post it. Isn't she a sweetie ?

Went to the movies on Wednesday to see "The Notebook" with my friend Sharon. It was a classic romantic love story which I enjoyed very much. I am contemplating buying it on DVD when it comes out. I really enjoyed the two young actors (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) that were in it and the chemistry that they had going on between them. Having said that of course James Garner and Gena Rowlands were very good as well. I was particularly drawn to the flashback parts of the movie when the story of the two young lovers was told though. I enjoy watching these type of movies cause they show how timeless love can be and it makes me believe that there is something like fate and a true soulmate. :)

Well enough "lovey dovey mush" for now. Don't want to bore everybody to tears. ;)
Not too much else has been going on. We received our last piece of furniture (the entertainment wall unit that will go around the TV) on Thursday and will put it together over the weekend. I am really looking forward to the finished result (not the actual putting together though *g*). I promise I'll post pictures once it's all done.

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday weekend. We don't have any real plans for the 4th but that's ok. I am not big on the crowds that usually come with watching fireworks and things like that. Will stay home and enjoy our new furniture instead. :)
