Birthday Weekend

Clip1-birthday2 Been meaning to update  for a few days now. Last weekend was my birthday (31- yikes!!) and I can't complain. Had a very nice birthday weekend.

On Saturday I had to work but in the evening we headed down to NYC to watch a show on Broadway. We saw the Green Day musical "American Idiot" and I really loved it, was done very well. We had great seats too, only five rows back. After the show we had a late dinner at one of our favorite yummy Italian restaurants Osteria al Doge. I had lasagna, Mike spinach ravioli in a butter sage sauce and chocolate mousse for dessert. To die for!

Sunday we slept in late since we didn't get home till about 1:30am. Then in the early afternoon around 3pm we headed over to our favorite local bar TKs for some birthday wings. They have a special where you get free wings on your birthday. As the years go by it's getting harder and harder to eat them all. :)

Received lots of nice gifts as well, the box set of the Vision of Europe DVDs, Riedel wine glasses, tea, chocolates, stationery, ... It was definitely a great birthday. Work has been just crazy this week. We have a big move/change coming up, part of our operations is moving to a different location so it's just been nutty with one thing after another. Probably have to work both Saturday and Sunday. Fun, fun, fun.

Short mail update for today. Sorry I am still so behind on my mail again. A letter went out on Wednesday to: Charles.TN. Received letters from/still owe replies to: Jessica/DE, Jetta/Finland, Alex/Germany and Nina/WA.

Block Island

Ferrylanding Finally getting around to a quick post about Block Island. We had a really lovely weekend there. What a beautiful island. We were really lucky with the weather as well which was great. Stayed for 2 nights and had nice weather all three days. The first day it was pretty windy, the ferry ride was kind of interesting too. :) But it all worked out. The day before they had to cancel all the ferries because of high winds and adverse sea conditions.

Saturday when we got there we walked around town, browsed at some shops. Everything is pretty much closing down or already closed for the season (the offical end of the season is Columbus Day but a lot of things close even earlier than that) but the stores that were open had a lot of clearance so we were able to get some bargains at 40-50% off which was nice. There were also only a few restaurants open but it wasn't a big deal because all the places we ate at were really nice.

It's great that the island is pretty small so you can walk everywhere in town. The rest of the island we explored by bike on Sunday and some more on Monday. On Sunday we probably did around 21 miles all around the island. I haven't been on a bike in close to 15 years so I was definitely feeling it. The scenery was super pretty though and very worth it. Plus it being off season there weren't a lot of cars or people around anywhere which was nice.

Really enjoyed our weekend and hope we can go back some time during the warmer months to be able to sit outside on one of the many porches they have. It's really expensive in season but we will have to see. Maybe a midweek special will pop up, you never know. :)

Short mail update for today. Sorry I am still so behind on my mail again. Letters went out on Monday to: Lotte/Denmark and Celia/MA. Received letters from/still owe replies to: Jessica/DE, Jetta/Finland, Alex/Germany and Nina/WA.

Happy Autumn!

Snoopy Another gorgeous weekend. You can definitely feel fall in the air now. You can smell it when you walk outside, hard to describe. I enjoy the brisk blue skies, light breeze, leaves tumbling around on the ground.

Mike had to work again yesterday but I was able to get more some work done on our backyard with the help of a friend. We worked for a good three hours and made quite a lot of progress. There is still a lot to be done but it's nice to see the difference when you look at it. I am feeling confident that by the same time next year we will have a decent backyard. :)

Not too much else new. Work has been very busy lately as part of our business is moving to a different location November 1st. Mike and I are going to continue working out of the same place but there is still a lot to be done, lots of projects and things to be organized.

Next weekend we are going to spend 3 days on Block Island in Rhode Island. Looking forward to that. Always nice to get a break from work. Been wanting to go to Block Island for ages. Originally we were talking about a trip to the West Coast (San Francisco, Oregon) but it's just too busy at work at the moment to be doing that. So we postponed that until the spring for now.

Short mail update for today. Sorry I am getting behind on my mail again. :( Received letters from/still owe replies to: Jetta/Finland, Celia/MA, Lotte/Denmark, Alex/Germany and Nina/WA.

Autumn Hike

Tarrywile Park-orange trail This week the weather was mostly crappy, especially Thursday and Friday with pouring sideways rain. But this weekend made up for it. Both Saturday and Sunday were gorgeous perfect fall days. Brisk blue skies, a little breezy, leaves blowing around. Just really nice.

We were supposed to be off for the whole weekend but ended up getting called into work Saturday morning because of a system issue. Mike ended up staying the whole day since he was already there anyway, catching up with various projects. I stayed till noon helping out and then went home. Took advantage of the nice weather and worked outside for a bit, then made a yummy broccoli & tortellini dish for dinner.

Today we went on a nice 2-hour hike in Tarrywile Park. It's right here in Danbury and has a bunch of nice trails. The trail we went on was especially daunting in the beginning and end, lots of hills, up and down. I am not a big fan of the up+down parts with hiking. But I do have to admit it was very pretty and I enjoy being outside when the weather is so nice, walking through foresty areas, fields, etc. We also walked past Hearthstone Castle which was neat.

After our hike we went grocery shopping, then caught up with my emails, Facebook and so on. Now just catching up with some other online things. Will watch some of our recorded shows in a bit and have some cheese/crackers/pepperoni, bread+dipping oil and some wine. Should be a good evening.
