Same old, same old

The title pretty much sums it up. Not much has been going on over the past few days. Sorry I have been so uninspired to post. Work has been crazy last week with Dan out due to the baby. Somehow I managed to make it through 6 long work days without a break (but don't I always manage to make it work one way or another ? *g*). The only positive thing is that my paycheck next week will include 15 hours of overtime so that's nice, comes just in time for my friend Joanne's visit.
Been busy cleaning out the spare bedroom and also organizing some stuff in our own bedroom. It really needed a serious overhaul (you know where you just go through everything and either find a use or space for it or throw it out) Joanne will be here Thursday night, only a few more days. Can't believe how fast this visit has come up - I'm very excited. :)
Hope everybody's week started off ok. Gonna go now and have another slice of banana bread (made two loafs last night - yum) and a big cup of tea.

Babies and stuff

First of all ... no I am not pregnant. :)
Been really busy at work, the reason being that one of my department's employee's wife just gave birth to a baby girl today. So I thought I'd make a post in her honor. :) The baby's name is Mia Autumn which I thought is a really pretty name. They already have a little girl named Kayley which I also think is a really nice name. Work's been hectic without Dan and I've been running around like a nut but of course I'm very happy for him and his wife.
Stories of going to the hospital at 8 am and not having the baby until 12:30 am the next morning definitely make me not want to have kids though - any time soon anyway. Every time I hear about somebody having a baby I realize that I am definitely nowhere near ready to take on that challenge in life. :) I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like - I am way too selfish for that and definitely not grown up enough. I love my cats, they take care of themselves - for the most part. :)

Columbus Day

I thought that Peanuts comic strip was funny - thought I'd share. :)
I am not a huge Columbus fan as I really don't think he discovered America. In my opinion it was either Amerigo Vespucci, the Vikings or the American Indians. Either way today turned out to be a long day and we didn't leave work until about 7:30. Let's hope for a better day tomorrow. :)

Fall Foliage

The early fall foliage frames the Stowe Community Church in Stowe, Vt., Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004

Isn't it pretty ? I can't wait until the leaves start to turn color around here. I just hope it holds out until my friend Joanne gets here so she can experience a true New England fall as well.
Having a good Sunday. Got to bed really late last night after watching a bunch of Alias episodes. I am completely hooked on this show at the moment. We bought season 3 on DVD so we can catch up before season 4 starts on TV. I'd definitely recommend the show to anyone ... and of course it doesn't have anything to do with the fact that I think Michael Vartan is absolutely super hot ;)

Happy (Early) Birthday !

I am off this weekend which of course is very nice. Slept in late and had a yummy bagel for breakfast/lunch. Around 1 pm our doorbell rang and the mailman brought us a big package. I knew that my mom was sending a package for my birthday but since it was coming surface mail (usually takes 4-5 weeks) I didn't really expect it so soon.
I decided to make up my own "birthday rule" which goes as follows: "If a birthday package comes to you in the mail you are allowed to open it no matter how early it is." My birthday is not until Oct. 24 so I got some birthday fun early this year. Yay. :)
The package included lots of yummy treats. My favorite ready-to-make (you just add water) Maggi Asian dishes (similiar to Rice-A-Roni with Asian flavors), Asian snacks (similiar to Ramen Noodles), Spinach and Kaiser Spaetzle (similiar to a noodle dish with either spinach or bacon and garlic) and Kaiserschmarrn (a traditional Austrian dessert dish). Along with all the food was a birthday card and the new Kuschelrock Vol. 18 CD (it's basically a double CD compliation with love songs). I have the whole series so it's always nice to get the newest CD. The CD even came in a tea-themed wrapping paper ... is it sad how excited I can get about stuff like that ? :)
Well besides all the birthday excitement we are continuing our cleaning frenzy today. It's the bathroom's turn today which needs a lot of cleaning as well. Besides that not much else new, surfing the web and enjoying a Saturday at home. :)

Friends and Power Cleaning

Skunkcleaning1
I was lucky enough to have a day off today, the reason being that we had our yearly furnace cleaning scheduled and somebody had to be home. The time slot they gave us was 8-12 so that meant I wasn't able to sleep in but oh well. :) After having some breakfast I decided to curl up on the couch with a blanket, big mug of tea and my fave cat Ollie. We watched "Friends" on DVD. I decided to watch some of the first season episodes, "The one with the East German laundry detergent", "The one with all the poker", "The one where the monkey gets away" and "The one where Rachel finds out". Was also keeping myself amused with a director's commentary of the pilot episode and some Friends trivia in the special features section. All in all a good morning. :)
Around 11:30 the furnace guy finally showed up. Had lunch after that and then decided to start my power cleaning of the kitchen. Our house really needs a thorough cleaning and since my best friend Joanne will be here in 2 weeks it's a good excuse to start cleaning. :) I spent the whole afternoon in the kitchen scrubbing away. I have to say at least it does look clean now. :)
So that's all the news here from my end. :) Tomorrow it's back to work but at least only two more days. I have Saturday and Sunday off this week - thankfully.

Autumn Sunday

It's the perfect fall day today. Brisk blue skies, just a tiny bit breezy, some of the trees are starting to change colors. Just a great day. I have my new "Pumpkin Pie" candle lit in the livingroom and "Banana Nut Bread" is keeping me company here in the bedroom. It's sure making me hungry. :) It definitely feels like fall today though.
Haven't really been up to much. We ran some errands earlier, talked to my parents for a while and chatted with my friend Joanne. Now I am just being lazy, surfing the web with a big mug of tea. I am contemplating the idea of writing some letters. I really should .... I'll try and get at least one done. :)
For now I am going to enjoy feeling autumn-y. :)

Shape up, ladies

This is an actual extract from a sex education school textbook for
girls, printed in the early '60s in the UK.

'When retiring to the bedroom, prepare yourself for bed as promptly as
possible. Whilst feminine hygiene is of the utmost importance, your
tired husband does not want to queue for the bathroom, as he would have to do for his train. But remember to look your best when going to bed. Try to achieve a look that is welcoming without being obvious. If you need to apply face-cream or hair-rollers wait until he is asleep as this can be shocking to a man last thing at night.

When it comes to the possibility of intimate relations with your husband it is important to remember your marriage vows and in particular your commitment to obey him. If he feels that he needs to sleep immediately then so be it. In all things be led by your husband's wishes; do not pressure him in any way to stimulate intimacy. Should your husband suggest congress then agree humbly all the while being mindful that a man's satisfaction is more important than a woman's.

When he reaches his moment of fulfilment, a small moan from yourself is encouraging to him and quite sufficient to indicate any enjoyment that you may have had. Should your husband suggest any of the more unusual practices, be obedient and uncomplaining but register any reluctance by remaining silent. It is likely that your husband will then fall promptly asleep so adjust your clothing, freshen up and apply your night-time face and hair care products. You may then set the alarm so that you can arise shortly before him in the morning. This will enable you to have his morning cup of tea ready when he awakes.'

Dinner + Movies

Had another busy few days as usual. Yesterday evening I was lucky enough to be able to sneak out at 5 pm though since I was going out with my friend Sharon. Had a yummy dinner at Ruby Tuesday's followed by some shopping at the mall. I was able to get a real bargain on a Yankee Candle (Pumpkin Pie). For all of you who know me I'm a huge Yankee Candle lover so I was very happy to get a new candle. :)
Afterwards we headed over to the movie theater to watch "Wimbledon" starring Kirsten Dunst. It was your typical chick flick but I really enjoyed it.
I am glad it's Friday but I still have to get through another day at work tomorrow. I really don't enjoy working Saturdays anymore cause they just tend to drag out. But oh well. :)
