Beautiful day

I am in a much better mood today than in my last post. I guess some of it has to do with the fact that I am home today. :) I should be writing letters but am enjoying being lazy instead. Not good, I know. :) I'll probably get to my letters in a little while though. Plus tomorrow if everything goes as planned I should be able to leave work at around 1 pm the latest so that will give me a whole afternoon to write letters as well. Then only 3 more days until Friday when we get to leave work at 11 am to go to Washington. YAY. :)

Anybody doing anything fun on this Memorial Day weekend ? I am jealous of all the people that are going to BBQ's. :) We actually don't own a BBQ grill and I guess even if we did I am not sure I'd know how to operate it. LOL.

Anyway, short mail update: I have received letters from Kirsty/UK, Hayley/UK, Jessica/Delware. Sent a letter to Steff/Maine.

It's a beautiful day outside today. The holiday weekend is really working out well. It seems like summer has officially started. Tomorrow it's supposed to hit 90 F (32 C). That's even a bit too hot for me. But I am enjoying the fact that I can wear shorts and tank tops and even at night go out to a restaurant in a short dress and not freeze to death when we come back out. Mike went to get two new fans at Target yesterday. One is a big industrial type fan that can blow you almost across the room. The other one is a window fan that blows the warm air outside and brings the cool air inside. Works well at night when it's cool out.

What a day !

God I wish national holidays wouldn't exist. Everyone else is probably enjoying a nice long three day weekend, mowing the lawn, having BBQ's, ... Instead I am still at work at almost 7 p.m. on Friday. Then tomorrow, Sat, I have to come in from 8-3 as well and Monday 8-possibly 12 or 1 depending on when we get done.

Today was absolutely nuts. The days before a holiday are always crazy, trying to get extra orders in so we don't have to work a full day on the actual holiday, phones ringing off the hook, people wanting this or that, .... Plus I was short-handed all day which didn't help. I am trying to focus on our Washington DC vacation next weekend. I am just really tired right now. :(

A nice day off

Today is my day off and it's been a really nice day. Almost summer like, sunny with a breeze. I had all the windows open all day and it was just really nice. Now it's getting a bit cloudy. I think it's supposed to rain later but for most of the day it was really nice. I think tomorrow it's supposed to shower and Saturday rain. Then Sunday nice and Monday real nice. Which I guess will be nice for the long holiday weekend. It's Memorial Day on Monday. I am working this Saturday and also on Monday but I am not really complaining since I make the schedule for my department so if I had really wanted it off I could have found a way to schedule myself off.

I am not complaining because the weekend after Memorial Day we are taking a weekend trip down to Washington DC so I am excited about that. We are leaving work on Friday around 11 am so we can get to DC before the evening rush hour. Then we'll stay until Monday, leave very early Monday morning so we can make it to work before lunch.

Short mail update. Received letters from Nina/Washington, Caroline/Scotland, Kristy/Savannah and Natalia/Krakow. I really need to catch up with my mail again soon. Will try to do that over the weekend.

Eurovision 2006

And it's that time of the year again: Eurovision time. :) Any European will understand what I mean. For my American friends here's the short version: The Eurovision song contest is sort of like American Idiol, only that all the contestants come from different countries and compete against each other. At the end there's a big vote and each country gets to give points to the other countries canditates. It's really hard to explain if you have never seen it. But I really do miss the whole thing, the whole tackiness and silliness of the event. It's just legendary. :)

Had a good weekend. Managed to avoid having to go into work on Saturday which was nice. We went to Arturo's as planned. Had my mussels in wine sauce and super yummy mushroom and garlic pizza. Oh so yummy. :) Ended up walking back to our car from Arturo's which is about a 4 mile walk. My legs hurt today but it was a nice walk. I enjoy walking in the city, especially in the summer. There's always something to see: People out and about, dogs, cats, street fairs, street vendors, ...

Today we didn't do much. The weather was kind of odd. Pouring rain one minute, sunny the next and very windy. Stayed home and managed to catch up on my mail which was good.
Letters going out tomorrow to: Tiffany/Oklahoma, Lexi/DC, Nadine/Tenerife, Melanie/Ohio, Barbara/Linz, Carmen/Germany and Panagiota/Switzerland.

Since my last update I have also received letters from Angela/Virginia, Steff/Maine and Pamela/Florida.

Going to watch a movie later. Maybe Flightplan with Jodie Foster. I have been meaning to watch that. I wish it wasn't Monday already tomorrow again. Ugh.

TGIF

I really liked this Peanuts comic strip. It's the story of my life. LOL. Well usually it's not always TV but the computer and the internet that seems to distract me the most. I am trying to get away from it as much as I can and make more time for reading and my letters. :)

On that note here's a short mail update. Received letters from: Lexi/DC and Carmen/Germany.
Sent letters out to: Wendy/CA and Alison/UK.
My mom should be released from the hospital tomorrow as well. So that's good news.

I am going to try and get as many letters as possible done over the weekend. Fingers crossed I should be off both Saturday and Sunday. Thinking about going to Arturo's (my favorite pizza place in NYC) tomorrow. Yum !

Planning on doing better next week. Went grocery shopping today and bought a whole bunch of stuff to make yummy salads for lunch next week. Lettuce, plum tomatoes, sundried tomatoes, mozzarella, sliced chicken breast, canned tuna, ... So I am sure I can put together a few different yummy salads with all that. :)

I am glad it's Friday night though. I wish Friday nights could last forever. Anybody have any fun plans for the weekend ?

It's only Tuesday ...

It's been a hectic two days. I have a hard time believing it's only Tuesday. Well, the good news is that everything went ok with my mom's surgery. Thanks for all your well wishes. She's still in the hospital, they don't know for sure when they will release her, but at least she is back in the regular room and everything seems ok.

Work has been crazy busy. A mixture of call outs from my own department and the drivers so the other supervisors ended up being on the road both days. I hate when I am the only supervisor stuck in the office dealing with all the craziness that happens. It doesn't look much more promising for tomorrow but we will see I guess.

Received a letter from Barbara/Linz and mailed a letter to Kristy/Georgia. So I still have 11 more letters to do. I promise I'll catch up eventually.

Mail Update

And another weekend has gone by. Weekends really do go by way too fast. :( Got up around 11:00 and called my mom. (Happy Mother's Day to all the moms I know by the way). My mom is in the hospital right now which of course isn't real fun on Mother's Day. She is having surgery tomorrow to have some gall stones removed.

Had some lunch afterwards. A Big Mac and small fries. Not very healthy ... but I lost a pound this past week so I figured why not ? LOL. After lunch I surfed the web for a bit and then went on a letter-writing marathon. I decided that I really needed to catch up on my letters so I managed to write seven. YAY. :)

Replies are going out tomorrow to: Jessica/Delaware, Hayley/UK, Kirsty/UK, Lotte/Denmark, Angela/Virginia, Erika/Italy and Karin/Switzerland. I still have 11 more letters to do. Argh. I'll try and catch up with everybody soon.

Went to Outback for dinner which was really yummy. I am soooo full now though. I have to be really good the rest of the week to make up for this. But it was worth it. *g* Gonna watch the movie "Broken Flowers" now. Hope you all had a good weekend. :)

Cleaning and other random stuff

So here I am again. I know I haven't been very good about the whole blogging thing lately. The funny thing is that I usually have about a thousand ideas and thoughts running through my head .. things that would be fun to post. Wouldn't it be great if you could just think up a post and it would put itself together automatically ? Well, some day. :)

Today was my day off. I managed to get out of bed around 10:30'ish which is pretty good for my standards on a day off. *g* Had some tea and lunch. Afterwards decided that it was time to do some cleaning. Went through a big pile of old magazines, cleaned off the top of the dresser, cleaned out the whole computer desk and rearranged my out-of-season candles so we have more room for all of our DVDs. The candles were piled up in front of the CD/DVD rack making it impossible to do anything.

So yeah that was my exciting day. I do feel like I got a lot accomplished. Just took a shower cause after an afternoon of cleaning I felt like I had breathed in so much dust ... no fun. Maybe that means I should be cleaning out some of this stuff more often ;)

I know I also haven't been very good with my mail updates lately. Right now I still owe letters to: Kirsty/UK, Melanie/Ohio, Michelle/Canada, Nadine/Tenerife, Cheryl/Mauritius, Tiffany/Oklahoma, Nova/Utah, Erika/Italy, Wendy/CA and Panagiota/Switzerland. I know A LOT. I was originally planning to catch up with my mail today but then got side-tracked with all the cleaning stuff which REALLY needed to be done as well. I will try and get caught up on the rest of my mail asap.

Love the ocean !

I am so glad it's the weekend and I have both Saturday and Sunday off.

Today was a really nice day. We went to Newport, Rhode Island for the day. It's about a 2 1/2 hr drive from where we live. I love it there - it's so gorgeous. Lots of nice shops, old historic buildings, cafes, restaurants, pretty mansions and of course the OCEAN. I love being near the ocean and every once in a while I just get a craving where I have to be near it. So we headed out to Newport today to satify that craving. :)

We arrived around 12:30 and headed to the Cliff Walk. It's a really nice path along the coast. On one side you can see the ocean/cliffs and on the other side a lot of really nice mansions. We walked along the Cliff Walk for a while and then headed back along Bellevue Avenue where the front of all the pretty mansions are. Some day we will have to tour the mansions as well. My favorite one is a private mansion along the Cliff Walk though. It's absolutely gorgeous. Has a closed in porch downstairs and an open porch upstairs. Wow, wouldn't it be awesome to live there ?

After looking at the mansions we walked to the Red Parrot for lunch. We have been there a few times and always go back when we are in Newport. It's an American/Caribbean restaurant that has absololutely yummy food. We had conch fritters as an appetizer and I had pizza topped with shrimp, crabmeat and scallops as an entree. Plus two yummy cocktails. :)

When we came out of the restaurant it had actually cooled down a bit and was drizzling. But luckily it was the kind of rain you get in the summer. The air was smelling like summer rain. :) We went to buy some postcards and then walked back to the car which was parked near the beach and headed home.

What a nice day !
