Vineyard Hopping

IMG_20180721_140143_811Humidity and tropical weather ... thunderstorms .. downpours ... all that and more for the next 10 days per the forecast. Ugh. So not in the mood for it. This past week was actually pretty decent. We had some storms pass through on Tuesday and after that it was actually really nice. No humidity, sunny and just really perfect. Well of course that was not meant to last.

Yesterday, Saturday, was actually not so bad yet. The weather was a bit unstable and cloudy but the rain didn't start until about 9-10pm. We made the best of the day and went east along the coast. Had lunch in Clinton at Chamard Vineyard. Always delicious and a fun place to hang out. I love their wine and the bistro has some of the best food. Wish it was closer but all in all it's not that far either. About an hour and a half away.

After Chamard we went further east and stopped at Stonington Vineyard. Traffic was a pain all day yesterday with highway closures and backups. Google Maps routed us all over the place (what did we ever do before GPS?) but we eventually got to where we wanted to be. Did some wine tasting and then hung out with some glasses of wine just people watching for a while. Definitely entertaining.

Today the humidity has sky rocketed and the weather has been super unstable with random downpours. Mike got the car serviced and an oil change while I ran some errands and hung out at Starbucks waiting for the car to be ready. Then had lunch at 121 in Oxford and now just hanging out. Not ready for it to be Monday again tomorrow. Ugh. Lots of things coming up at work in the near future, covering for people who will be on vacation. Busy, busy.

Thursday I had a dentist appointment and as usual that wasn't too enjoyable. Now with my braces they want me to come in for 3-month cleanings instead of every 6 months. Also gave me a prescription for a special toothpaste and urged me yet again to get my wisdom teeth out because they are causing major inflammation and issues with my gums. Oh the joy. I guess I will need to get on with it sooner or later and just get it done. Really don't want to but I don't think it will be avoidable for too much longer. We shall see.

In more fun news on Tuesday we have tickets to see Panic at the Disco at Madison Square Garden in New York so that should be fun. Just need to figure out when we need to leave work and if we will drive where to park. Guess we have tomorrow to figure it out.

World Cup Weekend

PixlrHot and humid again. Ugh. The beginning part of the week wasn't so bad. It was warm/hot but not really all that humid. But as the week progressed the humidity increased. Supposed to last through at least tomorrow I think when we may get a line of storms that might clear some of it out. I know you're supposed to love summer but with this hot and humid weather combined with all the craziness at work, summer is really not my favorite season. I love fall but what I hate about it is that it always has such a bittersweet feeling to it because it is ultimately followed by winter. And more snow and ice and cold. Ugh. I am all sorts of cheerful this morning it seems. Just not ready yet to face another week I think.

The weekend was pretty good all in all. Saturday we went to the movies and saw "Sorry to Bother You". I honestly don't even have the first idea how to begin to describe that movie. I would recommend going to see it, lot of social commentary, symbolism and whatnot. The NY Times said "If you’re not bothered — also tickled, irked, mystified and provoked — by Sorry to Bother You, then you’ve fallen asleep on the job" After the movies we went for lunch and then in the evening I just vegged out and binge watched a bunch of "Outlander".

Then yesterday was the World Cup final. The game was on at 11 here on the East Coast and some sports bars opened at 10 so we went to our local bar TKs to hang out and watch the game. I was rooting for Croatia who ultimately didn't win but at least it wasn't a boring game and Croatia did do a good job. Had way too much fattening food (nachos & wings) followed by a small pizza before heading home and catching up on some recorded TV shows.

Now it's already Monday again and another week ahead. Dentist appointment on Thursday, other than that nothing too crazy going on. This past week on Wednesday we went to Lucas Local and saw our friend John play and on Thursday we went to J. Lawrence where they also happened to have live music.

My dad was released from the hospital yesterday as well so that's good news. He's back home and needs to schedule some follow up appointments as well as some physical therapy sessions but hopefully all continues well.

And the humidity finally breaks just in time for the weekend ...

IMG_20180708_190743_235Hot and humid weather pretty much all week. Ugh. It was so, so hot and humid on most days. The worst of it was in the beginning of the week, Sunday IMG_20180708_191007_883and Monday I think. But the rest of the week wasn't a whole lot better. Eventually on Friday a weather system came through that pushed out the humidity. We had some thunderstorms on Wednesday (on the holiday) as well but that didn't seem to change anything. Just made it even more humid after the rain stopped.

Wednesday (on the 4th) we went to see "Ocean's 8" at the movies which was enjoyable. Have to suspend belief for a bit of course but it was an enjoyable and fun movie. After the theater we headed to Fairfield to have a late lunch at Flipside. Eventually made it back to Danbury and stopped for a couple glasses of wine at Black Angus to escape the heat/humidity for a bit longer. All in all an enjoyable day. Thursday and Friday was crazy busy at work, mainly due to the holiday and also me covering for manager. Couple crazy things popped up as well. Was definitely glad when the weekend rolled around.

And just in time for the weekend the humidity broke as well. Saturday it was actually almost cool for July. Only in the 70ies. But a really nice change from the crazy heat. Went to the movies again and saw "Jurassic World". Also enjoyable and not nearly as terrible as some of the reviews suggested. After the movies we had lunch and hung out. Then Sunday we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and spent the day outdoors. Checked out the newly opened CT Audubon Society Sanctuary in Sherman, CT (they only had their grand opening on Saturday) Was fun to be outside & to take a look at some of their trails. We will need to go back and try a few more of their other trails some other time. After we were done there we headed to a vineyard in Amenia, NY called Cascade Mountain. Then made another stop at Millbrook Winery. Weather was perfect so it was great to sit outside with a glass of wine overlooking the pond and grapes. After that we were ready for lunch and stopped at Hurricane's in Poughkeepsie before heading home. So a nice weekend all in all.

Now it's Monday again and another week ahead. Also in less fun news my dad has been in the hospital since Tuesday. They are running some tests to see exactly what's wrong and how to best treat him. Hopefully they will be able to get him feeling better in not too long of a time span. Just need to be patient. For now he's in good hands and good care. Will update as we know more.
