Sunday Baseball

IMG_20160828_150419Happy Monday. :) We're back on this coast (arrived back Wednesday morning after a red-eye) Spent the rest of the week running some errands, catching up with a few things etc.

Saturday we went to the movies to see "War Dogs" (pretty funny and a good movie overall) and had lunch at 121 in Oxford afterwards. When getting home at night we've also been binge watching "Parks & Rec", up to the beginning of season 4 now. It's been a while since we've binge watched a show so that's been kind of fun. Never really got into or watched the show when it was first airing but it's actually pretty funny.

Yesterday, Sunday, we took the train into NYC to go to the Mets baseball game with our friends John & Jana and Robin. Was fun to hang out with some friends for the day. The weather was ok too. It was in the high 80ies (31C) but our seats ended up being in the shade so that was good. The game was fun despite the fact that the Mets lost. Well oh well.

After the game we took the subway back into Manhattan and then went to the Village for some dinner. Went to a place across the Angelika theater called "Burger & Barrel". We had originally discovered the place when watching a movie at the Angelika a few years back. There are so many restaurants in the city, it really is crazy. You could eat at a different one every day of your life and never repeat.

Today I am meeting with one of the staffing agencies I used to use when I worked at my old job. Whenever I needed to hire a new employee for my department I would usually contact a few different agencies to see who they had available and go from there. Well, obviously I don't need to do that anymore but since they reached out to me I figured it couldn't hurt to go and talk to them and see if they are currently working with any companies who have job openings that could work with my skills. We will see how it goes. Kind of weird to be on the other side of it now but also weirdly interesting in a way. Been also looking at all the various job sites, checking new postings and all that.

Well, that's about all the news here from me. Going to see what this week brings. We have a vet appointment with Mindy on Wednesday, just for a check-up and to get her shots updated. Not looking forward to that. Our cats do not like to be transported in their carrier or ride in the car. Hate it. At least the vet is semi close (about 15 min ride) Well oh well. She will get over it. :)

Other than that nothing scheduled for this week as of yet. Need to take care of some odds and ends, errands, etc. Will see what the week brings.

Letter/Mail Update: Letters are going out today to Jessica/DE and Carmen/Malta.

Halloween Weekend/Mets World Series and other random stuff

Peanuts-Snoopy-Halloween-CardsAlready Monday again so I should make sure to make a quick post about the last week. Halloween fell on a Saturday this year which always brings out even more people celebrating and partying. We didn't really do anything for it though. Just went out to our usual local hang-out, had some fun seeing people dressed up and watched the Mets game.

It's been great seeing the Mets in the World Series. It is too bad that they didn't manage to win but Kansas City really did do very well so they deserve the win. It was still great to see the Mets get even that far. It's been 15 years since they have last been in a World Series.

Last week was another 6-day work week and pretty busy as usual. Our move of the office (have I even written about that on here? I can't even remember) has been pushed back another two weeks and is now scheduled for the weekend of November 14 which gives us a little bit more time to gets things organized.

Been busy with a bunch of payroll tasks as the girl's due date was this past Wednesday. As far as I know she still hasn't had the baby yet but understandably has been mostly working from home this past week. She's been working on some tasks while I worked on others. In a way it was a good week to try and do things on my own but still have her to fall back on as a safety net for questions and whatnot.

This week will be another busy week. Flying to England on Wednesday night so I have quite a bit to get done on Monday, Tuesday and part of Wednesday before I am ready to go. Let's see how all that pans out. Excited for my trip but it will definitely be a whirlwind adventure. :)

Mail Update: All caught up with my mail at the moment. :)

Let's go Mets

MetsHad a fun weekend even though we had to work Saturday. But on Sunday we went down to NYC to see a Mets game. Baseball games if the weather cooperates are always fun. And the weather was definitely nice. No humidity at all. We ended up sitting in the shade which actually made it a bit cool but better than crazy heat or humidity.

The Mets also won against the Padres which was good. :) After the game we went back into midtown and had dinner at Chevy's in Times Square. I normally hate chains and don't care for the touristy atmosphere of Times Square but somehow Chevy's works. Very yummy Mexican food and a fun place in the midst of all the craziness that is Times Square. :)

When we were done with that we decided to have a couple more drinks at a wine bar one block from Grand Central (Madison & Vine) Another great find with a laid back atmosphere. Was drinking Gruener Veltliner which made me happy. :)

Took the train back when we were done and didn't get into bed till about 1am so Monday hasn't been that fun but oh well. :)

Tomorrow, Tuesday, I am heading to Philly for a night. Going for the book event for Diana Gabaldon's new book "Written in my own heart's blood". Looking forward to it. Taking Amtrak down and staying at a neat hotel in the center.

Received a letter/owe a reply to: Katie/Germany, Celia/MA, Laura/Spain, Kimber/BC, Carmen/Malta, Charles/TN and Nina/WA.

Mets Baseball & David Garrett = Fun NYC day

NEWQuick update on a fun day and night out in New York City yesterday.

Mike & I went to see the Mets at Citi Field (baseball). The game started at 12.10pm. After all the crazy heat and humidity all last week it was actually quite chilly, only in the 60ies (18C) and pretty windy too. Plus some rain showers/drizzle in between. We still had fun though. It was a good game and the Mets also won which helped. :)

After the game Mike headed back to Connecticut while I took the subway into Manhattan. Had dinner at Blue Haven while waiting for the doors to open at Le Poisson Rouge for David Garrett's showcase. Really neat venue. Basically a club where they had tables set up in front of the stage and also a standing room area by the bar. The tables had already sold out by the time I had purchased my tickets so I had standing room tickets but really there wasn't a bad place to be at all. Didn't have to worry about drink/food minimums either not having a table.

Jana met me at the club and we had a good time watching David perform. It definitely was a very cool show. More laid back and less scripted than some regular shows. He seemed to say whatever came to his mind, joking around etc. Really fun.

He played for about an hour and a half which for $30 wasn't a bad deal at all. After the show Jana and I walked around the village some more and had a late dinner at La Laterna on McDougal Street. Shared smoked salmon and a 6-cheese platter. And some profiteroles for dessert. Delicious.

Afterwards we took a cab back to Grand Central and the train back to White Plains where Jana had parked the car. The ride home turned into an forever ride as there was construction around exit 1 on 84. Didn't get home till 1am. So needless to say I am kind of out of it today. :)

Working tomorrow since I was off yesterday. Then Sunday we are heading to Goshen for the annual CT Wine Festival which should be fun.

Mail Update: A letter went out on Monday to: Jessica/DE. Letters went out today to: Laura/Spain, Charles/TN and Lotte/Denmark.

Let's go Mets

Hanna-CitiFieldFirst week back at work is over and all in all it wasn't too bad I suppose. Let's see what week 2 brings today. :) Have a dentist appointment for some more fillings at noon today. Not looking forward to that. So I'll be happy once that's done and over with.

Saturday I worked (I had Thursday off though which was nice. Slept in and then spent most of the day working on my photo book for my recent Europe trip. If you are curious you can see it here)

Yesterday, Sunday, we took the train down to New York to see a Mets game. Haven't been to Citi Field this year yet so that was nice. Back in May we went to the stadium in DC to see a game when Anneliese was here but haven't been to one in NY yet. Of course the Mets lost. Always seems to go that way. They tend to play somewhat ok or even good in the first half of the season, then fall apart for the second half. Oh well.

After the game, which actually went into extra innings (and then they embarrassingly lost in the 12th inning), we went back into Manhattan and had dinner at Chevy's (Mexican) in Times Square. Yumm. Took the train back after that and were home around 10:30pm. Long but fun day.

Mail Update: No letters have gone out. Received letters/still owe a response to: Lotte/Denmark.

David Garrett, Rizzuto's & Super Bowl

DavidGarrettFighting an annoying cold at the moment. Ugh. Have had it since Wednesday so I am hoping that it will go away fairly soon. Luckily it wasn't too bad yet on Wednesday so I was able to enjoy the David Garrett concert and our short overnight stay in Morristown, NJ. The show was absolutely incredible as expected. Our seats were third row center so just perfect. The hotel we stayed at was really nice too (got a great deal on Hotwire so worked out). On our way back from NJ on Thursday we stopped in our Newburgh, NY office for a bit and then went back to work in our Danbury office.

The rest of the week was fairly uneventful. Had to work Saturday but luckily it was a pretty quiet day. Today, Sunday, we went to check out the newest location of Rizzuto's in Stamford, CT. We had a Buy 1 Get 1 Free Entree coupon to use so that worked out nicely. Had yummy pizza (mine was topped with prosciutto and arugala) and nutella cheesecake for dessert. Delcious!!

Now we are back home and watching the Super Bowl. Well Mike is watching the game, I am mostly just watching the commercials and drinking tea. :) But that's ok, the commercials are usually pretty entertaining since all the companies put so much money in their special Super Bowl ads.

Mail update: Letters going out tomorrow to: Celia/MA, Received letters from/owe replies to: Charles/TN, Nina/WA, Emilia/Finland, Nicki/OZ and Tiffany/OK.

Let's play ball

Baseball_cartoon_BB01X001 It's Friday - thank god. Another week that kind of dragged. I think I am in need of another vacation *g*. I shouldn't complain too much because we have another trip coming up in three weeks. Back to Atlanta to visit with our friend Tommy again and also to see a baseball game (NY Mets vs Atlanta Braves)

Speaking of baseball we are also going to a game tomorrow, Saturday, in NYC. And are actually seeing the same teams. Mets are playing the Braves right now in NY. Will be nice to go to a game, haven't done that in a while. Plus the weather is supposed to be pretty nice too. Let's hope that all works out. After the game we are going to have dinner at Chevy's (Mexican).

No plans for Sunday. It's supposed to rain so a good stay at home and do nothing (just catch up on some chores around the house etc) day.

The visit to the wild life experience was fun last weekend. Was really neat to see the wolfs, bobcats and foxes. First time I ever heard a wolf howl. Very cool. We had a good time and afterwards went into NYC to have lunch, then back home to catch up on some shows.

Short mail update for today. A letter went out on Monday to: Jessica/DE and Celia/MA. Also a letter went out on Wed to Emilia/Finland. Received letters from/still owe replies to: Lotte/Denmark, Alex/Germany and Jetta/Finland.
