Long weekend

I hope all of my US friends are having a nice Memorial Day weekend. I am actually off for a change. I am not sure when the last time was that both Mike and I were off for a 3-day weekend (not counting any trips we have gone on but just simply off for a holiday weekend) Probably a good 4 years ago I would guess.

Anyway, not much going on here. My dad got released from the hospital yesterday which was much sooner than expected so I am very glad about that. He seems in very good spirits so that's good of course. The end of this week I also decided that I am going over to see my parents in July. I will be gone July 15-25. Don't ask about the flight prices. Flights to Europe in the summer are just pure robbery in my opinion but anyway ... I am glad I am going. :) It will be nice to get away from work for a little while and be able to spend time there. My parents are actually going on a short (5 day) trip to Switzerland and Italy so my dad suggested that I should go with them. Of course I couldn't turn that offer down. :) So I will be enjoying Europe July 15-25 while Mike will have to stay back at work and make sure everything keeps running as usual. I do feel guilty ... well maybe just a little. ;)

Yesterday wasn't all that of an exciting day. We went to Cosi in Darien, CT to have lunch. They have the best paninis/sandwiches and salads. Yum. I had one of the newer light salads, the "Toasted Fennel & Chicken Salad" (with low-fat pomegranate dressing. Tandoori chicken, cucumbers, carrots, green onions & mixed greens with low-fat pomegranate vinaigrette, dusted with fennel seeds) It was really good although I found out that I am not a big fan of fennel seeds. I did love the dressing and the tandoori chicken though. Yum. :)

On our way home we stopped for ice-cream. Cookie dough ... yummm. :) Well, and then we pulled into our driveway at home around 4 p.m. and guess what ? I realized that I had forgotten my bag at Cosi. God, I was so annoyed. I called them and luckily someone had found it. So we had to drive all the way back there to get it. I am not sure if this is worse or equally stupid than the time I forgot a full drawer worth of clothes in the hotel in Hawaii when I lived in CA. (that story ended well too by the way as the people at the hotel mailed me all my stuff back to CA)

Today we are off to the Berkshires in MA. Going to two wineries and the Norman Rockwell museum. Lunch at a brewery, then back along RT 7 where we might stop at some antique shops. Should be a fun day. Let's hope I don't forget anything anywhere. ;)

Crazy busy at work - good news though

Good news. My dad's surgery went ok and he is in recovery now. My mom will be able to go and see him tomorrow so we will know more by then. But I am glad everything went fine. He will have to stay in the hospital for another week or so but at least the surgery part is over.
Work has been absolutely nutty. It always is prior to holidays. Been running around trying to figure out scheduling, talking to customers, trying to please everybody which of course is never possible anyway. Still looking like I will get my 3 day weekend. We will see what happens I guess.

Mail Update: No letters have gone out. :( Received letters from/owe replies to: Pamela/Florida, Celia/MA, Nadine/Tenerife, Nina/WA, Alex/Spain, Eunice/Malta, Lene/UK, Jetta/Finland, Sarah/Canada, Michelle/Canada and Cheryl/Mauritius.

And another weekend gone by

Another Sunday evening. All the weeks just seem to blend into each other these days. Today actually turned out pretty nicely weather-wise. Saturday was pretty dreary and cool with showers throughout the day. Today was partly cloudy and pretty nice.

I found out today that my dad has to have surgery early next week. Everything should hopefully be ok so I am just concentrating on that. Looks like it's gonna be a busy week all around next week. The week before a major holdiday is usually pretty busy. Memorial Day is one week from tomorrow so this week should be filled dealing with schedule/route changes, making sure we can accomodate all of our customer's requests and mostly just keeping a sane mind. It looks like I might actually get a 3 day weekend for the holiday but we will see. Don't want to get my hopes up just yet. ;)

Mail Update: Since my last update letters have gone out to: Lotte/Denmark and Carmen/Germany. Letters going out tomorrow to: Tizz/Denmark, Natalia/Poland, Kirsty/UK and Becki/MI. Received letters from/owe replies to: Nadine/Tenerife, Nina/WA, Alex/Spain, Eunice/Malta, Lene/UK, Jetta/Finland, Sarah/Canada, Michelle/Canada and Cheryl/Mauritius.

Beautiful day

A really nice day today. I am off from work today and really didn't do too much. The weather is beautiful so I opened all the windows to let some of the nice breeze and warm air inside. Had lunch (parmesan herb crusted chicken breast with some whole grain brown rice and garlic sauteed mushrooms) and then took a little walk down to the Rite Aid drug store in our neighborhood.

It was nice to be out + about. While walking down the hill I encountered a Thayer driving school car turning the corner very slowly. The driving instructor in the car was the owner of the school who recognized me and waved at me. It brought back lots of memories of me making that same turn at about the same timid speed about a year ago. Memories - sigh.

I should write some letters or at least answer some of the emails that have piled up over the past week. I am glad I am finally feeling better. It really sucks to be sick. I am glad to be able to enjoy the beautiful weather. Still fighting with an annoying cough but it seems to be getting better each day so that's good.

Mail Update: Since my last update letters have gone out to: Celia/MA, Steff/ME, Jessica/DE, Fiona/Scotland and Alison/UK. Rachael Ray - People magazine article REQUEST

Here's a silly request for everyone. I am in search of the last issue of the People magazine prior to the current one. I think the cover date is May 14th. The reason I am looking for it is that Rachael Ray was on the cover and there was a big story about her in the magazine. I would love you all to death if one of you might have that issue and could send me the article or even copy/scan it for me ? If you send it by mail I will definitely re-imburse you for the postage. So let's see if I am lucky and there is a person that reads my blog that also reads PEOPLE. Fingers crossed. :)
PS: Here's the link from the People website so you can see what I am talking about. Actually if any of you have a current People magazine lying around I might be able to read the article online if you could give me the Insider Access code that's on the back.

Feeling miserable

Another short update here from my end. Ever since we got back from Pittsburgh I started feeling lousy. First my throat was just a bit scratchy, then it developed into a full-blown cold with congestion, sneezing, coughing and a sore throat. To top it all off my voice has sounded abolsutely terrible. I have barely had a voice at all these past few days. For those of you who don't know a good part of my work is being on the phone talking to customers which proves to be quite difficult when people can almost not understand you. Yeah, it's been fun.
Today I actually decided to stay home as my voice was just really shot and I was completely exhausted from coughing all night. I ended up sleeping till about 3 p.m. Then got up, had something to eat, made more tea, took a shower and am feeling at least half-way human again.
Of course my mail pile had grown like crazy over this past week as I haven't really written any letters. I promise I will try and catch up with everybody very soon. I am hoping that today marks the hump day and I will get better from here on out. I really need my voice back and want to stop coughing and feeling miserable. :(
