Christmas Weekend Update

IMG_20201226_142820_902And another Christmas done and checked off. Had a four day weekend that somehow flew by but then isn't that always the way?

Monday to Wednesday was kind of busy at work since I was covering for someone out on vacation. Wasn't too terrible though. Made it through the three days ok and then had Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and the weekend off. So that fell nicely this year, no complaints.

On Christmas Eve we slept in a bit and then headed to Stew Leonard's to pick up some stuff to eat for later and the next day. When we were done with that we headed to Rosy's for lunch and hung out for the afternoon. Eventually headed home and had our food (baguette, brie, broccoli & horseradish dip, shrimp cocktail, some other cheeses and crackers) and wine while finishing "The Flight Attendant".

Christmas Day we also slept in and then headed to the movies to watch the new Wonder Woman movie. I know everybody has been kind of complaining about it and Mike wasn't in love with it either but I didn't hate it. I mean it wasn't the best movie I ever saw but it was entertaining enough. And it was fun to be at a movie theater again with actual movie popcorn. Hadn't done that since March so that was nice. After the movies we headed home and watched more stuff at home. All in all watched four movies that day (Wonder Woman, Midnight Sky, The Witches and Superintelligence)

Saturday we slept in (sense a theme here? :)) and then drove to Westport to have lunch at Rizzuto's. Later we stopped at J Lawrence for a bit where we met up with John and Jana. And on Sunday I had a massage scheduled for 10.15 (so relaxing) and then we headed to Brotherhood Winery to pick up some sparkling wine for New Year's Eve. From there we drove to Newburgh to have lunch at Hurricane Grill and again stopped at Rosy's for a bit before heading home.

And well here we are and it's Monday. Made it through the day ok. It's another short-ish week and we have a lot of people out so I am wearing a lot of different hats. But keeps me busy and makes the day go by fast. Can't believe it's 2021 in just a few days. I guess I am definitely ready.

Let it Snow

IMG_20201217_191728_785Sunday Fun Day. :) Always happy when it's the weekend. Haven't really been doing all that much but that's ok. A relaxing weekend isn't a bad thing. This past week was fine. I had the dental implant surgery on Tuesday and then was off on Wednesday to recuperate a bit. All in all not too terrible. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow, Monday, to make sure all is healing ok but yeah I think should be fine. The pain was just bad the first day and a half or so. Since then it hasn't been bad really. So that's something.

Thursday and Friday I worked as normal - still WFH - I don't know when we will actually be able to go back to the office. I was going for a while once per week (although there were hardly any people there even then) but then they completely shut down our office in I think late October or early November when there were more spikes again in CT. I am not complaining too much. The work from home thing definitely has its benefits. I have been able to linger in bed much longer in the mornings and of course there is no commute :)

Oh the snow. Forgot to write about that. That was Wednesday night into Thursday morning. We ended up with about 14 inches or so I'd guess. Really heavy wet snow so it was kind of a pain to shovel. So Thursday we spent a good amount of time outside cleaning the car off, the area around the car, walk ways, stairs, etc. It does look pretty I suppose but I am really not a big winter person. But it is what it is. I do like the idea of four seasons so I guess I'll just have to continue to deal.

Yesterday, Saturday, we went to Rizzuto's in Westport for lunch and then hung out at Two Steps for a little bit before calling it an early night. Today we are going to head for brunch at the Marketplace in Brookfield. And going do a TV night later. We finished "The Queen's Gambit" which I thought was really good. And have now started "The Flight Attendant" - on episode 4 now and enjoying that as well. We also need to watch the second season of the Mandalorian. So that will be up next I think.

Crazy to think it's already Christmas next week. Where has this year gone? I guess I am happy 2020 is coming to a close. Let's see what 2021 brings for us.

Dental Implant Surgery, Impending Snow Storm, Quarantine, ...

SnoopyI feel like it's been ages since I last posted even though that's really not true. Only been a little over a week. But anyway, let's see. I feel like a lot has happened since then.

As I mentioned in my last post, the weekend before last I went for a Covid test. When I finally got the results back the following Tuesday night they came back positive. I guess not all that surprising since I had been in close contact with two other people who also tested positive. Mike did another test and that came back negative too and he also tested positive for antibodies so somehow he had this before and I didn't catch it at that time. Anyway, I stayed home and quarantined and then re-tested this past Friday and got a negative result. So all better again. What a weird experience it has been. Luckily my symptoms were pretty mild. But the no taste-no smell thing was the weirdest thing. Especially for somebody who loves food. And I really couldn't smell a thing for days. Mike kept holding things under my nose (spices etc) but nope, nothing. Well, luckily that has started to fade and go back to normal again. It's not a 100% but at least it's much better. So yeah, it's been very strange. I am glad I and our close friends and Mike's niece all had mild symptoms and we all of course stayed quarantined and out of people's way as soon as we found out/showed symptoms.

Anyway, so that was that. Since I tested negative I was able to go ahead with my dental implant surgery which was scheduled for today. All in all not a terrible experience I suppose but when is going to the dentist and having someone drill around in your mouth ever any fun? I do have pain meds so hopefully that takes care of that. And will be eating soft foods for the foreseeable future. Hopefully by next week I'll be able to go back to somewhat more normal foods again. But we don't really have any big plans for Christmas so no huge deal either way I guess.

I did buy tickets to see "Wonder Woman 1984" on Christmas. We haven't been to the movies since early March I think so that will be both fun and kind of weird. I am looking forward to it. And the theater is only selling tickets at 50% capacity plus enforcing social distancing and masks. So should be fine.

Not too much else has happened I guess. Due to having to quarantine I was able to get all of my Christmas cards and mail done so that was one positive side effect. Although god knows when they will actually get to people. Especially overseas mail seems like a random gamble right now. I know my friend in Spain got my card and so did a friend in the UK but people in Austria have not. Guess we'll see if they eventually show up.

I am off tomorrow to continue recuperating from the dental surgery. Just going to have a quiet day. Sleep in, make some mashed potatoes and binge more "Poldark". :) And then tomorrow night we also have our work Holiday Happy Hour via Zoom. So hopefully I'll feel ok enough by then. And we also have a crazy snow storm forecasted with 12 to 16 inches for our area. So yeah, not going anywhere, just going to stay put.

It's beginning to look a bit ...

20201202_192925_resized_1... like Christmas :) To be fair the picture I am showing here I took right after I decorated the tree on Wednesday night. What you can't see in the picture is that the top part (it's a fake tree) broke somehow since last year and we had to figure out a way to duct tape it. Since then the top has slated quite a bit to the left, leaving me with a very strange looking lop sided tree. lol. All very 2020 I suppose. But oh well. I'll look for a new tree during the clearance sales I guess.

I feel like it's been quite the week. Been having a bit of a cold, sore throat, mild cough, congestion, headache etc. Didn't think all that much of it. But was at home anyway since I am working from home etc. But on Friday we heard from our friends that they tested positive for Covid as well as Mike's niece. Ugh. Mike was able to snag an appointment for a rapid test on Friday morning and his test came back negative. I got tested Saturday morning but mine was a regular test, they said takes about 2-3 days for results. Mike also ended up getting tested for antibodies and that came back positive. Interesting. It's fascinating to know that he somehow had Covid already at one point even though he never had any real symptoms. I do wonder if I am negative too, considering we live together and spend most of our time together. But I guess I'll just have to be patient. Been quarantining at home, finished most of my Christmas cards, put up the decorations, etc. I do have the "no smell/taste" thing which I know is very common for Covid but I have also had this exact same thing with a bad cold/stuffy nose so god knows. Will just have to be patient and wait.

Other than that everything's the same. What a strange, strange year it's been. Will catch up on some TV later. I think we will also start "Queen's Gambit" on Netflix since everyone has been raving about it. And tomorrow is Monday again.

Will make myself another big mug of tea and see if there's anything else I can accomplish while at home.
